As the 2016 presidential race heads into the final months, Republicans find themselves in the throes of a brokered convention. In an attempt to unite the party, 12 former candidates are tasked with selecting the nominee by unanimous decision. Once negotiations begin, personal aspirations take over, and the GOP braces for what could be its greatest hurdle: Republicans.
“12 Angry Candidates” pays homage to “12 Angry Men/Jurors,” written and directed by Public House Theatre Ensemble MemberJustin Hamby, boasting a diverse, all-female cast. “This election is a mess, and as a comedian, there is almost an obligation to make fun of it,” says Hamby “Although we used the skeleton of ‘12 Angry Men,’ I wanted to really find out things about the candidates and how they viewed the world. With there being so many GOP candidates, it was the perfect opportunity for parody.”
Hamby’s last show, “The Miracle Walker: A Tale of Two Bushes” ran at TPHT in January, and before that, he was featured in “Ready for Hillary: The Musical.”
Produced by Willie Opper and The Public House Theatre. Cast: Katie Binger, Rebecca Escobedo, Emily Friedrick, Briane Goodrum, Rebecca Grossman, Maya Haughton, Kelly Haramis, Jo Ellen Jacob, Avalon Kann, Haley Keeley, Manuela Mendoza, Kelly Opalko, Katie Ruppert, Jacki Schwarz, Olivia Sieck, Kyla Zaniboni
